Course Description

Walk your path to freedom through the understanding of your own spiritual nature and the study and practice of universal spiritual principles. This online course is based on the book Lessons in Truth by Dr. H. Emilie Cady, a metaphysician and homeopathic doctor of the nineteenth century.

This course will present you with tools and techniques that will help you create a happier, more fulfilling life. Because it is an online course, you determine how much time you will dedicate to the class and also when you will do it. Your freedom begins here! The instructor will prepare a Learning Guide for each week's work. The Learning Guide will include comments about the topic to be studied during the week plus suggestions about what to look for in the assigned readings.

Along with this posting, the instructor will initiate discussion threads by posting specific questions related to the week's topic of study. Students will be able to post responses to the discussion questions, respond to other students' postings and ask questions of interest to the class. The instructor will respond as appropriate.

Questions of special interest to individual students will be answered by e-mail.

Learning Objectives

The eight-week course will include assigned reading materials, discussion board exercises, and one telebridge conference. On completion of the course, students will be able to:

Explain the metaphysical and fundamental reality of all things and how we create our experiences. (Note: Metaphysical refers to the interpretation of things, words and events beyond what is written. It is going beyond the form and physical circumstances to the real meaning of them.)
Detail the methods presented by Dr. Cady for individuals to explore their divinity, overcome limitations, and develop true freedom.
Describe the nature of God and identify a situation in which you allowed God to help you.

Requirements for Students

The time required for this course is approximately three hours each week to:

Read assigned chapters in the book and complete the discussion board exercises for each week.
Use Bible passages to support answers on the discussion board questions.
Respond to each item in the Learning Guide.
Participate in one one-hour telephone discussion forum.
Write a reflection paper. Students are expected to summarize the three concepts which impacted them the most from this course. They will share how practicing those concepts has impacted their lives. While students may seek assistance with editing, the reflections should be their own personal work. The paper should be typed and double-spaced, in a 12-point font, and four to five pages (8 ½" x 11") in length. This will be the final project of the class and is due two weeks after the final class session. Papers may be sent via e-mail directly to the instructor. Grading

The following grading scale will be used: S (Satisfactory); NC (No credit); IN (Incomplete)
Breakdown of required assignments:
- Preparation for each weekly discussion: 30%
- Participation in each weekly discussion: 30%
- Final paper submitted on time: 40%
Number of course credits: 10
