Effective Prayer

We live in an age that is very fast-paced as well as oftentimes chaotic and confusing. One hundred years ago, the average person took in about 600 impressions in a day that caused action or reaction in thought or deed. Today the average person takes in about 60,000.

Needless to say, it is easy to see why stress and anxiety levels are so high and physical and emotional well-being are so low. Now, more than ever, it is important that prayer is an essential part of our daily activity.

The latest scientific discoveries have directly linked prayer and meditation to the reduction of heart disease and the increase of mental and emotional stability. When going into prayer, we identify with the sacred, divine, spiritual nature of ourselves and the universe. We connect with God.

In that moment, we give thanks to God for the good in our lives. We reflect on our blessings and express appreciation and praise for the wonderful things in our world.

In addition, prayer is a time to put forth a vision of how we would like our lives to be and affirm that we have what is necessary to realize that vision.

When facing a difficult problem or challenge, we can focus on a vision of ourselves moving beyond the problem and thank God in advance for giving us the wisdom to do so.

If there is conflict, we can thank God in advance for the understanding and love we have been given that will allow us to make peace. A day without prayer for the spirit is like a day without food for the body.

Clarity & Meaning
This article is such a good reminder of our need to step back and recognize the intense amount of information we are managing each day. So often we don't acknowledge how complex our basic realities are nowadays. Time in prayer is so vital. A time to just be. No information to assess or discard or attempt to ignore. Just simply breathing and living and connecting to greater clarity and meaning than all the information of our age could ever provide.
