“Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”—Mark 11:23-24

Question:

My need is for healing of the digestive tract, and the need for a biopsy to be resolved.

Comment:

This powerful passage can be both encouraging—as one of the truly great promises of Jesus’ ministry—and discouraging, when we struggle to make it manifest in our lives. I think there are three essential points to be noted in applying this spiritual truth to our human existence.   First, relax! There’s no heavy lifting involved! We don’t have to move the mountain ourselves. Tension is always an expression of fear, and fear is the antithesis of the faith we need. Often the greatest block we have is simply our fear that we might somehow get it wrong.   Second, Jesus’ instruction does not involve convincing the doubting thoughts we may have in our minds. We simply have to be sure we do not doubt “in our hearts.” There are always going to be thoughts insisting our faith is foolish. We simply waste time if we try to stomp them all out. If we move our inner focus to our hearts, and find and affirm the pure, clear Christ energy we find there, those negative thoughts will be powerless to prevent our spiritual manifestation.   Third, notice carefully the verb tense Jesus uses in his final statement. He doesn’t say “Believe that you will receive it.” He tells us to “believe that you have received it.” In demonstrations such as the feeding of the 5,000, Jesus gave thanks for answered prayer before any manifestation of the answer had actually appeared. He didn’t expect that it would happen. He recognized that in the Omnipotence and Omnipresence of God the energy about to manifest as abundance, or healing, is already and always at hand. It will always express according to our faith.

Blessings!
