Question:

Is it Christian to sue someone with a lawyer????? I believe that I wouldn't sue anyone for any reason because I believe in the power of love and Jesus will take care of any wrong doings by others. I am being sued for a very ridiculous reason and because an attorney thinks he can make some money off of me. Is there anything in Unity doctrine that addresses this?

Comment:

Although Jesus' message was always a message of love and self-empowerment, he clearly realized that so long as we remain engaged in this dualistic human experience, there will be a need for the guidance and structure of the law. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets," he says at Matthew 5:17. "I have come not to abolish but to fulfill." In other words, his message does not free us from the necessity of obeying the law, or from the consequences of disobeying the underlying spiritual law of the universe.   What he offers is a new perspective on the law, and on our obedience. We don't obey out of fear of negative consequences, but out of a loving awareness of our innate creative power. That awareness expresses as forgiveness—of ourselves and of our accusers. "Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are on the way to court with him, or your accuser may hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison" (Matthew 5:25). If we insist on blaming, resisting and defying, we will be condemning ourselves to the negative consequences of those negative choices. If we see the conflict as an opportunity for healing, we may still have to move through consequences for any negative choices we may have made. And we may still find ourselves holding others to account for negative choices they may have made. The law must still express in our lives. But when we approach the law from an energy of love, we ensure that the ultimate result will be an experience of love and forgiveness.   Blessings!
