"For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away" (Matthew 13:12 RSV).

Question:

Why would God take away from the poor and give to the rich?

Comment:

God would not take away from the poor and give to the rich. It is the “poor” and the “rich” who do that to themselves. Jesus in this passage is explaining to his disciples that we create our life experiences according to our faith. What we believe to be true is what becomes true for us, according to universal and unfailing spiritual law. “Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.” People who believe themselves to be poor create a consciousness of lack that expresses as poverty in their lives. People who have faith in the innate abundance of God experience that abundance in their lives. Please note that this may or may not have to do with amounts of money. You may have a great deal of money and be always 'poor' if your focus is constantly on a fear of losing it, or a perceived sense of lack that demands more and more. Conversely, you can be lacking in money and still be 'rich' if your focus is on gratitude for the ways in which divine abundance is expressing in your life. We've all read stories of lottery winners who receive huge amounts of money, only to lose it, squander it and find themselves back in poverty. Like everything else, abundance is based in consciousness. Someone locked in “lack” consciousness will not find abundance unless a shift in consciousness accompanies the shift in money.   Blessings!
